The Pilgrims
The Pilgrims were a group of English Separatists who believed that the Church of England was too corrupt and that true Christians should worship independently of the state. In 1620, a group of Pilgrims set sail for America on the Mayflower. They landed in Plymouth, Massachusetts, where they established a colony that would become the first permanent European settlement in New England.
The Puritans
The Puritans were another group of English Protestants who left England for religious reasons. They believed that the Church of England was not reformed enough and that true Christians should live by a strict set of moral rules. In the 1630s, a large number of Puritans migrated to New England, where they established colonies in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New Hampshire.
The American Revolution
The American Revolution was a war fought between Great Britain and its thirteen colonies in North America. The war began in 1775, and it ended in 1783 with the signing of the Treaty of Paris. The people of New England played a major role in the Revolution, and many of the key leaders of the Revolution came from New England, including John Adams, Samuel Adams, and George Washington.
The founding of New England is a story of hardship, perseverance, and the pursuit of a better life. The Pilgrims and Puritans who settled New England were driven by a deep faith and a desire to create a society based on their religious beliefs. Their legacy is a region that is known for its strong work ethic, its commitment to education, and its spirit of independence.
